The Mandalorian's Dave Filoni to direct one of three confirmed new Star Wars movies

The Mandalorian's Dave Filoni, Logan's James Mangold and Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are all making Star Wars movies.

Attending today's (April 7) Studio Showcase at the London-based convention Star Wars Celebration, the trio took to the stage infront of feverish fans to tease their respective ventures through a galaxy far, far away.

Planted between the prequel and sequel trilogies, Filoni's movie will focus on "escalating war between the Imperial remnant and the New Republic".

Mangold, who was also in town to deliver a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will introduce Star Wars fans to "the first Jedi to wield the force" in his movie.

And lastly, Obaid-Chinoy's fastforwards 15 years on from The Rise of Skywalker and reunites us with Daisy Ridley's former scavenger Rey as she rebuilds the Jedi Order.

"My heart is pounding," admitted the actress at the event as the news was announced. "I am so so thrilled to be at the celebrations with you all in London. Thank you Sharmeen for having me back, I'm very thrilled to be continuing this journey."

Still no official word on Donald Glover's possible reprisal of Lando Calrissian, though.

He recently told GQ: "Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic sh*t, it really had people experience time... People realise their time is valuable. You only get so much.

"I'm not interested in doing anything that's going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I'd much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I'd like to hang out with."

The Mandalorian season 3 is streaming on Disney+, with new episodes on Wednesdays. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
