Mandy Choi is surprised to win Miss Chinese

26 Jan – It was surprising to everyone when Sydney representative Mandy Choi won the crown at the 2015 Miss Chinese International Pageant.

As reported on On CC News, despite the fact that contestant 13, Leah Lee, was a hot favourite among the audience, the Seattle representative did not even make it to the top ten during the final event held at TVB City in Tseung Kwan O, enabling the Sydney representative to become the new Miss Chinese International instead.

Admitting that she was as surprised as anybody about her victory, Mandy added that she already felt blessed when she was announced to be part of the Top 5.

"I never thought I would win it," she said. "I am not even sure which round I performed the best in. I think I need to ask the judges."

When asked if she will develop her career in Hong Kong, like many other beauty queens before her, Mandy said that she would consider it and discuss it with her family first.

Second place winner, Hong Kong-born Veronica Shiu stated that she was not disappointed to lose the crown to Mandy.

"I am happy with my performance and I think I did very well," she said.

Meanwhile, second runner-up, Catherine Hui from New York, stated that she is satisfied with the result, but will be missing her new friends that she made throughout the competition.
