Mandy Patinkin Boards Ivan Cash Documentary ‘The Ever Curious Man’ As Executive Producer
EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) has boarded The Ever Curious Man, the first documentary feature from Ivan Cash, as an executive producer.
Patinkin’s wife, actor and writer Kathryn Grody, will also exec produce the project, with Jake Ewald serving as producer.

Focusing on the artistic legacy of sculptor Sydney Cash, a compulsive 80-year-old artist (and the filmmaker’s father), the film explores the staggering beauty and sobering cost of life as an artist. At his advanced age, Cash faces a crossroads. The lease to his biggest storage space of 35 years is ending, forcing the family and him to decide what will happen to all of his work (some pieces 12 feet tall).
How will Sydney’s chronic impulse to produce new work line up with his family’s pleas to pause and get his affairs in order, the film asks? Will a lifetime’s worth of art land in the trash, a gallery, or somewhere in between?
“I admire Ivan’s push to share this deeply personal story in this format,” said Patinkin in a statement to Deadline. “He’s turned this portrait of an artist into so much more; a captivating tableau of success and disappointment — resentment and reconciliation.”
Added Cash, “This documentary gets at the collective existential crisis that one person can spur. By exploring and even culling my father’s art work, we’ve grappled with the weight behind the question, ‘What gets left behind?'”
A Broadway veteran best known for turns in iconic films like The Princess Bride, as well as acclaimed series like Homeland, Patinkin previously produced that Emmy-winning show for Showtime. Most recently, he’s been seen on screen in the Hulu series Death and Other Details.
An award-winning artist and filmmaker whose work explores human connection in the digital age, Ivan Cash’s films have been spotlighted by SXSW, Sundance, TEDx, the Tribeca Festival, The Atlantic, Vice, and The New York Times, receiving over a billion online views, six Vimeo Staff Picks, multiple Webby honors and a Fast Company World Changing Ideas award.
