Ryan Gosling was happy to think pink for Barbie — even when the cameras weren't rolling.

In fact, as his costar Margot Robbie told Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy in a chat for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, many of Gosling's fellow Kens were more than willing to don the color on set.

"It’s always the guys, I feel like, that are like, 'Oh, finally I have permission to wear pink and get dressed up!' " said Robbie, 33. "It would get crazier and crazier until Ryan would be like, 'I think I need a mink.' It would just get insane."

After Murphy, 47, jokingly asked Robbie whether she was "sick of pink" by now, the two-time Academy Award nominee said she wasn't "done with" it yet and added, "I mean, you just can’t have a Barbie movie without the color pink."

"And everyone really got on board with that. I’d make an 'On Wednesdays, we wear pink' day. Do you know that reference from Mean Girls?" she asked Murphy, referring to the moment Karen Smith (played by Amanda Seyfried) says the line to Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) near the beginning of the 2004 teen comedy.

"I had forgotten that reference," said the Peaky Blinders actor.

"On Wednesdays, they wear pink. And so if you didn’t wear pink on set, you got a fine. And then I’d donate it to charity," Robbie said.

Gosling, who played Ken in the film, previously spoke with PEOPLE for the Barbie special issue in which he shared details about Robbie's mandatory weekly pink dress code and the charitable venture that came out of it.

"What was really special was just how excited the male crew members were. At the end of the film, they all got together and, with their own money, made pink crew shirts with rainbow fringe," said Gosling, 43.

"It was this opportunity for them to show their respect and admiration for what Margot and Greta were creating," he added. "It was almost like that scene at the end of Dead Poets Society, where they all get on their desk and say, 'O captain! My captain!' "

Back in April, writer/director Greta Gerwig, 40, recalled during a presentation at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas how the Barbie set was a dream come to life for its cast and crew.

Surrounded by beautifully crafted, life-size versions of the iconic doll's houses, pools and more, the director was, understandably, overwhelmed — in the best way, to the point where she "cried when I stepped on the set for the first time."

"The cars that they made ... it was so touching, because all of the people who made the vehicles had just made the Batmobile and were so excited to get the pink paint out," Gerwig added.

Robbie couldn't agree more, telling the filmmaker, "You were just so happy; we felt that every day."
