Mariska Hargitay and Glenn Close shined in simple yet elegant stilettos at Variety’s Power of Women Summit luncheon in New York City on Thursday.
Pumps and platforms are often a part of Hargitay’s wardrobe, with the actress often adjusting her footwear with the respective season. In December 2022, she attended a “Saturday Night Live” afterparty in a punky set of lace-up boots that featured black laces and stitching, thick leather soles, a black leather upper and stitching along the outsole. That same month, Hargitay opted for a pair of metallic platforms from Prada’s spring 2021 collection that featured a 5-inch block heel decorated with the brand’s iconic enameled metal triangle logo to attend the 2022 People’s Choice Awards where she accepted the award for People’s Drama TV Star for her work on the hit crime series “Law & Order.”
As for Glenn Close, the “101 Dalmatians” star told Footwear News in 2019 that some of her most memorable roles have been influenced by the footwear she’s worn for the part she was playing. Close frequently wears pumps and stilettos within her wardrobe.
Variety’s Power of Women event is an annual summit that features conversations with some of Hollywood’s highest achieving and influential women. The event includes stories of inspiration, optimism, and hope by connecting celebrity honorees with women working every day to affect positive change.
About the shoes
For the event, both Hargitay and Close chose to wear elegant footwear. Hargitay was seen sporting a simple pair of black pointed-toe pumps that were constructed with leather. While the back of the shoe couldn’t be seen fully, Hargitay is known for wearing stiletto heels that range between 3 and 4-inches. Close kept it minimalistic as well, choosing a pair of cream, open-toe sandals. The stiletto heel is approximately 3-inches.
About pointed-toe pumps
Pointed-toe pumps are regarded as a preferred shoe for red carpets and formal occasions. Various designers including Balenciaga and Valentino offer pointed-toe models regularly as a part of their catalog. The popularity of the slim stiletto heel with an angular toe-box has started to re-emerge again in the 2020s. In 2024, the style started on an upward swing with stylists recommending pointed shoe styles to achieve simple and classic looks for spring and summer. It is expected to continue to be a major trend throughout the remainder of 2024.
