Marlo Hampton confirms she won't return for “Real Housewives of Atlanta” season 16: 'A fresh start'

The reality star said she's looking forward to "getting back to showing my multifaceted lifestyle of philanthropy, fashion, and fabulosity!"

Marlo Hampton is bidding farewell to the Real Housewives of Atlanta.

The Bravo reality star confirmed to PEOPLE that she will not be among the cast returning for the series’ upcoming 16th season.

"My contract with Real Housewives of Atlanta ended when season 15 wrapped,” Hampton explained. “This break from RHOA is a fresh start, allowing me the space to participate in new creative entertainment projects focused on my future, and not reliving my past."

Hampton officially joined the Real Housewives of Atlanta as a full-time cast member back in season 14 after years of appearing on the program as a both guest and a friend of its cast. Now, she told PEOPLE that she’s ready to put the show behind her so that she can devote her time to her family and goals for the future.

"My nephews are transitioning into pivotal stages of their academic adolescence,” she explained, “and I am focused on my representation in their eyes and getting back to showing my multifaceted lifestyle of philanthropy, fashion, and fabulosity!”

Still, Hampton maintained that she’s “thankful for this amazing platform of Housewives” for allowing her to “bring awareness to foster care, my non-profit Glam It Up, Inc., and showcase my fashion showroom” during her time on the show, adding, “I look forward to my continued relationship with Bravo and NBC Universal.”

She's not the only peach stepping away from the series either after season 15 received its lowest ratings yet and sparked rumors of a potential reboot. Earlier this month, Kandi Burruss, who has starred on the show for 14 seasons, told Variety that she was "not coming back this year.”

"Well, It's been 14 seasons and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long because they were making a decision," Burruss said at the time, "but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things and I got some nice, big projects coming soon."

But, as the saying goes: when one door closes, another opens. Porsha Williams recently revealed she will be heading back for its next season. “Porsha Guobadia is in the building,” she confirmed in a social media post. “See y'all!"
