Putting on the mask is almost as natural as putting on our shoes when we head out now.

The last time I went out, it was for a facial appointment to deal with the breakout I’ve been getting on my face. The aesthetician took a look at my face, narrowed her eyes and shook her head, before going into a spiel about how they have been kept busy by people with skin problems exacerbated by constantly smothering their skin with a face mask. She also went into details about the whiteheads and blackheads she had needed to squeeze out of people’s chin, but I think I’ll leave that for another day.

Seeing that face mask is going to be part of us for a long time, it's worth adjusting your everyday skincare routine to deal with potential skin issues that may come from wearing a mask. Keep your face clean by washing it with a gentle cleanser everyday; use a good moisturiser that won’t clog up your pores; apply a lip balm to protect the delicate skin of the lips; avoid over-exfoliating which can cause more problems with the mask on; and rethink the need for pigmented cosmetics under a mask because that’ll most certainly transfer instead of staying on the face.

Some products in the market are made specifically to deal with acne, so for those who don’t want to relook at their entire skincare range at home, just slot these items wherever it complement your personal routine!
