‘The Masked Singer’: Tiki & Husky Talk Their Double Elimination On Rock Night

It was a double elimination night for The Masked Singer, and two contestants got the axe during rock night.

Despite a rendition of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” that got the audience and the judges going, Husky was first on the chopping block, sending Tiki and Sea Queen into the battle royale. After making it through several rounds of The Masked Singer, it’s hard to believe the artist behind this mask almost declined the chance to perform at all.

“My agent gave me a call and said that they wanted me on the show, and originally I said no,” Ginuwine told Deadline a few hours before his unmasking. Luckily, he had a change of heart.

“I’m pretty much a person [that likes] space to myself,” he said. “So I figured, just come out of your shell and just try something new for change. Because the pandemic really messed a lot of us up in the house for a whole year, especially a lot of artists. I really wasn’t able to connect with people.”

During the show, each contestant revealed a sly connection to one of the judges, but the “Pony” singer hinted at a run in he’d had with host Nick Cannon on his show Wild N Out. Eventually, Robin Thicke was able to put the pieces together.

“I knew they wouldn’t be able to guess right off the bat. But as as time went on, and you have four judges up there, so somebody’s gonna say something. That’s the fun about the show, it’s going to trigger others to say, ‘Oh, yeah, it could be that,'” he said, adding he was “smiling and laughing” behind the mask as the judges tried to figure out his identity.

Thicke isn’t the only one who had their suspicions about Ginuwine behind the mask. The R&B singer says he’s received several phone calls from friends wondering if he’s secretly doing the show.

“I said no. I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about. I wouldn’t do nothing like that,'” he laughed.

Looks like he might be getting a couple of follow up calls tonight now that the truth has been revealed.

Next up to go home was Tiki, after going head-to-head with Sea Queen singing Poison’s “Nothin But A Good Time” — in front of frontman Bret Michaels himself.

“I was kind of freaked out that Bret Michaels was standing right in front of me,” Tiki told Deadline. He added that he’s a little bummed to admit he was sent home on the night dedicated to his genre of music, but he’s letting it slide off his back.

Now it probably a good time to reveal that Tiki is none other than Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach. In fact, he revealed that Michaels’ own turn as Banana inspired him to compete on The Masked Singer.

“Then I saw some other performers that I really liked. Medusa [Season 9 winner Bishop Briggs] was on was on the season and I thought she really kicked ass,” he said.

Don’t be fooled by the silliness the show can often emanate. Performing on that stage takes just as much skill as any other stage Bach has ever performed, if not more considering the added challenge of the massive tropical drink costume (which he said made him feel like a “Tyrannosaurus Rex.”)

“So, when I had not seen the show, I thought it was mostly about comedy, and costumes…which I love. But more than that The Masked Singer is about singing,” he said, adding that he took song selection and voice training very seriously. “Only a singer really knows his voice really well.”

Of his performance of Pilot’s “Magic,” he explained: “I had to get my voice in shape to get up to that level of range because it’s pretty, pretty high singing that song. And when I watch it back, I am very proud of my vocal performance on that.”

Bach will likely be sitting down with his kids Wednesday night to watch his unmasking with his kids, who he has not revealed his identity to. Sure, they’ve asked. But the rock singer has been committed to keeping the secret — taking it even further than Ginuwine.

“I never admitted that it was me,” he laughs. “They’re laughing looking at me, and I’m going ‘What? I don’t know what you’re talking about.'”
