The Masked Singer US spoilers follow.

The ninth series of The Masked Singer US has finally come to an end with the final two contestants revealed and the winner crowned.

Everyone from sports stars to metal icons, acting legends, and a well-known acapella act have taken to the stage and had their masks removed over the weeks in the run-up to the grand final.

On last night's (May 17) episode, Macaw and Medusa went head-to-head in front of the judging panel in a bid to take the top title and the coveted Golden Mask trophy.

Following emotional renditions of 'Hold Back The River' by James Bay and 'All by Myself' by Eric Carmen, Macaw took the second place spot and was revealed to be American Idol finalist David Archuleta.

Judges Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger correctly guessed his identity, while Robin Thicke thought it was Jason Mraz, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg went with Neil Patrick Harris.

Jeong became emotional when the singer was revealed, recounting times he and his wife watched his American Idol performances while she was pregnant and on bed rest.

"You were like a ray of light to my family, and it's an honor to see you in this capacity," he told the singer. "Thank God for you, I love you."

That left Medusa to be crowned the winner following performances of 'Elastic Heart' by Sia and 'Welcome to the Black Parade' by My Chemical Romance. Best-selling singer Bishop Briggs took the victory, pointing out it was not the most difficult thing she had done of late.

"When I was on the show, I was six months postpartum," she told the judges. "My most recent memory was performing at Coachella while pregnant, which was such an undertaking.

"I feel like compared to that, this was okay. That made a huge difference that I had something so intense to compare it to, being six months pregnant and performing in the desert heat. And so, I think that helped my endurance a little bit."

Scherzinger once again guessed the singer's identity correctly, while Jeong believed Medusa was Susan Boyle, Thicke picked Grimes, and McCarthy Wahlberg thought it was Fergie.

The 'Wild Horses' hitmaker spoke about her motivations for being on the show following her win, saying she was curious about "having the opportunity to really make it about [her] voice".

She continued: "It was an adventure performing underneath the costume, for sure. I feel like I could see at the beginning of each song and then by the end of it, who knows what I could see. But my expectations going in were just to be as authentic as possible. And my hope was that the emotion would come through."

The Masked Singer US season 9 airs on Fox, while The Masked Singer UK airs on ITV1.
