Concert ticket scams are very common nowadays, but it hasn’t stopped people from getting resale tickets through various channels.

For TikToker Habibi (who declined to provide their real name), they purchased a ticket for Mayday’s concert in Singapore last Saturday (13 January), only to discover it was a fraudulent ticket at the National Stadium entrance as it had “already been scanned in multiple times”. They also said that there was a couple “with the exact same barcode as my first ticket”.

Habibi subsequently got a second ticket but realised that the barcode had also been scanned before. They ended up vibing outside the stadium with other fans.

Bought ticket for about 70 per cent off face value

Speaking to Yahoo Southeast Asia, the 27-year-old real estate agent said that both tickets were sourced from the same platform. The first ticket was a Cat 6 ticket, which went for $198 (excluding booking fee). Habibi said they got it for approximately “70 per cent off face value” and it was bought the night before the concert.

Upon reaching out to the platform to inform them of the fraudulent ticket, Habibi was offered a replacement Cat 1 ticket about 20 minutes later.

They said, “I find it puzzling as to why there were invalid or fraudulent tickets on the platform as the sellers of the platform only gets paid after the event has ended and if the buyers do not complain about having any issues entering or with the ticket in general.

“I was also pretty unlucky to have received two invalid tickets in a row.”

Despite the fake tickets ruining their evening, Habibi said there were many people who were vibing outside, with some bringing along their lightsticks. “It was actually not that bad after all,” they shared.

Habibi also managed to snag Cat 2 tickets for Mayday's second concert on Sunday at 50 per cent off from a Carousell seller, so they still got to watch the band live.

Will still use the resale platform in the future

They declined to identify the platform as “they did me right by refunding me in full and even offering me a voucher for future purchases”.

Habibi said, “I will still use them in the future, compared to using platforms without a middle man like Carousell, as there is customer support on the other end if there is anything wrong with the transaction.

“Also, this is my first time having issues with the tickets bought there after buying countless tickets from there over the past few years, even before COVID.”
