New measures to cut waiting times at tips
A number of measures will be introduced to tackle increased waiting times at tips, Bradford Council has said.
These include more skips at each Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in the area and a new reverse parking policy at two sites.
An overflow option is also being trialled at the Bowling Back Lane and Keighley HWRCs at weekends.
There have been long queues reported at both sites, especially on Mondays when they are the only HWRCs open in the district.
The council said their tips were busier during the summer as it was a "popular time for people to work in their gardens, move house and have clear-outs"
“We are, however, taking steps to reduce the queues," a spokesperson said.
"This includes finding ways to speed up the tipping process at all our sites, by increasing the number of skips for each waste stream to meet demand.
"We have also introduced a reverse parking policy at two of the sites, which enables more cars to use the sites at a time and makes it safer for users."
The council said opening and closing times would be promoted on social media and they would also share the times of day when the tips were quieter.
Extra skips will also be available at Bowling Back Lane on a Monday within the HWRC, the spokesperson added.
At the end of March cash-strapped Bradford Council closed three out of its eights HWRCs to save an estimated £900,000 a year.
This prompted fears from some residents and politicians that this might lead to more fly-tipping.
The overflow option being trialled will see residents using Bowling Back Lane and Keighley HWRCs being diverted into the main transfer stations at weekends.
The council said this would increase the number of cars able to use the sites.
