Mercedes Moné has lost the IWGP Women’s Championship, being defeated by Mayu Iwatani at Stardom's All Star Grand Queendom event.

The former Sasha Banks dropped the title in the show's co-main event, which also saw Tam Nakano defeat Giulia to win the World of Stardom Championship.

Moné won the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW's Battle in the Valley in February, after making her New Japan debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Following her defeat, Moné told Iwatani she was the "icon" of Stardom and added: "Show these girls all over the world why you are truly the icon."

While it had been previously reported that her time with Stardom was coming to an end, Moné recently quashed the rumours in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

"The rumors are so far from the truth," she said. "If it’s not coming from me or my voice, then how does anyone else know my business? None of it is true unless it is coming from me. It’s just a reminder that I’m a conversation starter."

Moné then added of her new life in Japan: "This has become my second home. And I’m committed to staying here to make history."

Meanwhile, Moné's former WWE tag team partner Trinity Fatu recently denied reports that her asking price was too high for Stardom.
