Michael Mosley's Wife Reacts After His Body Is Found: 'We Had an Incredibly Lucky Life Together'

Clare Mosley called her husband "wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant" in a statement after his death

Michael Mosley's wife, Clare Mosley, is reacting to her husband's death.

After Michael's body was found on Sunday, June 9, following a search for the popular British television doctor, who disappeared in Greece earlier in the week, Clare said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, "I don't know quite where to begin with this."

"It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together," she continued. "We loved each other very much and were so happy together."

Noting that she is "incredibly proud" of the pair's children for "their resilience and support over the past days," Clare added, "My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It's clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you."

According to multiple outlets including the BBCAssociated Press and The Guardian, Michael's body was found on a beach in Agia Marina.

Lefteris Papakalodoukas, the mayor of Symi — where Michael went missing — said, per the AP, that the body was lying face-up against a fence after appearing to have fallen down a steep slope. The search for Michael initially began after he did not return from a hike on June 5.

In her statement, Clare said that she and her loved ones are currently "taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it."

"He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team," she continued.

According to Clare, "Michael was an adventurous man," which is "part of what made him so special."

"We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him," she said. "Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked."

"We’re also very grateful to the press who have dealt with us with great respect," Grace added. "I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends."

"Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael," she concluded. "Thank you all."
