Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight postponed due to Tyson's recent health scare

The former heavyweight champion has been recovering from an ulcer flare-up.

Netflix's live Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing event has been postponed in the wake of the legendary boxer's recent health scare.

The streamer announced Friday that the event previously scheduled for July 20 will be postponed to later this year. The heavyweight champion, 57, fell ill earlier this week during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, becoming nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up prior to landing, his representatives said.

Doctors recently suggested to USA Today that Tyson could be suffering from a peptic ulcer — categorized as a sore on the stomach lining, small intestine, or esophagus — and proposed postponing the boxing event.

“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time," Tyson said in a statement via Netflix. "Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flare-up, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover. My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon."

Tyson also had some fighting words for his opponent: "Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end, you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good."

The 27-year-old Paul also issued a statement: “I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night. My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake — when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish. Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”

Netflix will honor previously purchased tickets for the fight on the new date. In the coming weeks, more details about the postponed match will be provided.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, first announced in March, will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will mark Tyson's first competitive match since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride.
