Millie Bobby Brown has revealed that her fiancé Jake Bongiovi’s adventurous underwater proposal almost went very wrong.

The Stranger Things star has been dating the actor, who is the son of Jon Bon Jovi, since 2021 – and in April the couple announced their engagement.

Brown was on The Tonight Show yesterday (February 29) to promote her new Netflix film Damsel, and during the interview she explained to host Jimmy Fallon about how Bongiovi proposed in a very unique way.

"Jake and I bonded over diving, we love diving," she said. "We got our diving licenses together. And one day we were on vacation and he was like, ‘Mill, you've got to be up at 8am, we’re going on a dive.’

"So we go under and we’re many metres down. And he gives me a shell, and I turn it over and it’s a ring."

However, the sweet proposal could have taken an unfortunate turn, with the ring almost meeting a watery end.

Brown said: "He puts the ring on my hand, and as I go to show him, the ring falls off my finger. Plummets so fast, it was like a cinematic movie.

"Jake threw himself into the water so deep – the diver was like, ‘You can’t do that, literally your brain will explode.’ He does a cinematic grab, opens [his hand] and he saved the ring."

The actress paid tribute to her fiancé’s heroic actions, saying: "I truly feel like it’s a reflection of who he is and I feel like we’re always going to have each other’s back, and if anyone drops the ball, we got it."

Damsel sees Brown star as Princess Elodie, a damsel who marries a prince before discovering that his family recruited her as a sacrifice for an ancient debt. Elodie is thrown into a cave with a dragon, and has to try and survive.

Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson, Black Panther’s Angela Bassett and Black Widow’s Ray Winstone also star in the film.

Damsel will be available to stream on Netflix on March 8.
