“Minx” is canceled (again)

Saved by Starz for its second season, "Minx" has once again been axed.

Life is hard for Minx.

The comedy series about an erotic women's magazine in the 1970s has been canceled... again. EW has learned that Starz does not have plans to develop a third season of Minx.

Minx initially premiered on Max (then HBO Max) back in 2022, and the streaming platform greenlit the show for a second season, which was only a few days from wrapping production when Warner Bros. Discovery unceremoniously canceled it as a tax write-off.

Produced by Lionsgate Television, Minx found new life at Starz, where it's second season aired in July 2023, coming to the screen just as the SAG-AFTRA strike was beginning, hampering the cast's ability to promote the show.

Sources tell EW that both seasons of the show will remain available on the Starz app and all major platforms.

Star Jake Johnson previously hinted at his own skepticism for the show's future, even cutting his hair, which he had grown out to play porn publishing magnate Doug. “I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” he told Deadline. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it… My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”

Season 2 ended its run in September with many questions still remaining as to the future of Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), Doug, and Bottom Dollar Publishing. After realizing that Constance (Elizabeth Perkins) was an insidious influence, Joyce went rogue, joining Richie (Oscar Montoya),  Shelly (Lennon Parham), Bambi (Jessica Lowe), and Tina (Idara Victor) to publish their own version of Minx.

Meanwhile, Doug fell prey to Constance's offer of money and power, jumping straight into her bed. And a connection seemed to be forming between Bambi and Lenny (Rich Sommer), while Bambi contemplated seeking refuge with Jim Jones and his followers.

In short, the story was far from over. "We have a lot of story to tell," creator Ellen Rapoport told EW at the conclusion of season 2. "I definitely want season 3."

But alas, that is not to be as Bottom Dollar Publishing closes its doors one last time.
