Miranda Lambert Burns It All Down in New Girl-Powered Music Video for Latest Single 'Wranglers'

This new song is the first single from Lambert's upcoming LP, marking her first new solo work since she dropped 'Palomino' in 2022

Miranda Lambert is taking some revenge in her new music video.

On Thursday, June 13, the country superstar, 40, released the music video for her single "Wranglers," which was released last month and tells the story of a woman who "set it all on fire" after a bad breakup.

"And there's one thing that she learned/Wranglers take forever to burn," Lambert croons in the song, which features heavy electric barbed wire guitar.

The track, released on May 3, is the first single from her upcoming LP — and it marks her first new solo music since she dropped Palomino in 2022.

According to a press release, the track was written by Audra Mae (who lends her vocals for the song), Evan McKeever and Ryan Carpenter, and is based on a real "woman-to-woman" conversation between Lambert and Mae about their time in toxic relationships with no-good boyfriends.

In the video, Lambert walks into her friend's house to comfort her after a bad breakup from a not-so-great guy, spotting a potted plant smashed on the ground on her way in. As she and some other girlfriends comfort her friend, who says she needs to mail her now-ex's stuff to him, Lambert comes up with an idea: "If he wants his s--- back, we're gonna send him his s--- back."

The music video — directed by Lambert's frequent collaborator Trey Fanjoy — then shows Lambert and her friends as they therapeutically and powerfully burn the ex's stuff — especially his Wrangler jeans — with a can of kerosene, harkening back to the musician's hit 2005 song "Kerosene."

"'Wranglers' is a classic tale of a woman taking her power back," Lambert said in a press release. "I think we can all identify with the character in this video, because we have all had a time in our life where we needed to find our strength, and also get a little revenge on someone who did us wrong or hurt us."

"This offers such a cool, raging take on how something like this unravels; I am so proud to sing this song," she added.

Just last month, the country star spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about her upcoming album, which "Wranglers" appears on. According to the singer, the album is "very country" — "You can tell we made it in Texas," she joked at the time.

"I made this record in Texas. I hadn't made an album in Texas since I was 18," Lambert said. "I went down to Arlyn Studios in Austin, and Jon Randall, who's my bestie and co-writer and co-producer, we worked together a lot."

"Just going home to Texas to make it felt really right for this new season and this new chapter," she continued. "I signed with Republic Records ... and this new team has just given me so much fire and inspiration, because it's all about the music with them."
