Miriam Margolyes has issued a warning to those considering cheating on their partners after admitting to being unfaithful herself in the past.

The actress and authour, 82, got candid about her love life while speaking to Gyles Brandreth on his Rosebud podcast.

During the chat, the former MP asked the Harry Potter star about the importance of being faithful to your loved one.

“Well, I believe that we should be,” Margolyes replied. “I wasn’t always. But I am now.”

She has been in a long-term relationship with Heather Sutherland since 1968.

Margolyes also spoke about the first time she met Sutherland and how for her it was a case of love at first sight.

Gyles asked her: “What was the first moment you set eyes on your life partner?”

“We arranged to meet at the cinema and it was The Charge of the Light Brigade,” she said. “And I looked at her and I thought, you’re the one. You are. That’s what I want for the rest of my life.”

“The moment you saw her?” repeated a shocked Brandreth.

“The moment I saw her I had no doubt. And of course, she had not a clue,” she added. “She was white haired. That was the key for me.”

The Oxford-born octogenarian concluded by advising that “you shouldn’t gamble with your happiness” when you find the right person.
