The body of Valeria, a 9-year-old Ukrainian girl who went missing on June 3 on her way to school, was found by German police about four kilometers from her home, the Sächsische Zeitung reported on June 12.

Authorities have determined that Valeria was the victim of a crime, although they have ruled out sexual violence.

Police are investigating the case as murder or manslaughter, which is currently "focused on the family's social circle," with no suspects or detainees identified at this time, the German tabloid Bild wrote on Telegram the same day.

"We are sure that the deceased is the missing nine-year-old Valeria. We send our deepest condolences to her family. Valeria was a victim of a crime. We are investigating the murder," said police chief Carsten Kempf.
