Missing Fla. Woman Found Dead a Day After Her Husband’s Pickup Truck Was Discovered on Fire

Amber Estep was reported missing by her mother days after she was last seen by her husband, Brian Estep, who allegedly told authorities the couple had been in an argument

A woman’s body was found a day after authorities questioned her husband about her disappearance and found his pickup truck engulfed in flames, according to Florida officials.

Authorities found the body of Amber Renee Estep, 39, after a property owner discovered her just off a roadway on Jan. 20, Brevard County Sheriff's Office officials said at a press conference on Thursday.

The day before, investigators had interviewed her husband Brian Estep about her disappearance, said the sheriff’s office. Within a few hours after the interview, witnesses reported seeing Brian’s pickup truck engulfed in flames.

Authorities were investigating Amber’s disappearance after her mother reported her missing on Jan. 19, the sheriff’s office said. Brian said he last saw her on Jan. 16 after a doctor's appointment.

In the interview, Brian said that the two had been in an argument, and he had dropped Amber off on the side of a highway after she requested to be let out of the vehicle, authorities said.

In a GoFundMe set up for Amber's funeral, her family said she was “a sweet and loving young woman who was taken from this world before her time.”

“Nobody deserves to go through anything like this,” read part of the fundraiser.

It was organized by Shawn Leet, who paid tribute to Amber on Facebook.

“My family and I are devastated,” he wrote Tuesday, adding that his family had lost two other members in the last three years.

“I love you Amber. I'm so sorry I wasn't there to protect you. I will see you again,” he wrote.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said they are working with fire marshals to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire. They said Amber's death is being investigated as a homicide but provided no further information regarding the nature of her injuries, and did not discuss suspects or arrests.

Authorities did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for further information.
