Mobile Legends (MLBB) developer MOONTON Games announced on Sunday (15 January) that the M5 World Championship will be hosted in the Philippines in December.

The announcement was made shortly before the grand finals of the M4 World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, which was fittingly an all-Filipino affair between defending champions Blacklist International and national rivals ECHO.

The M5 World Championship will be the culminating event of the 2023 MLBB esports season, which will feature over 260 days of competition across two league seasons and six major tournaments. MOONTON is also looking to add more as yet unannounced events to its calendar.

M5 will also mark the first time that MLBB's world championship tournament will be hosted in the Philippines, which has been the most dominant country in the scene for three years now.

Bren Esports claimed the Philippines' first MLBB world title in the M2 World Championship back in 2021.

Blacklist International then became the second Filipino team to claim a world title in the M3 World Championship in December of that year. The M3 grand finals was notably an all-Filipino affair, with Blacklist International sweeping ONIC Philippines.

The Philippines' dominance over the MLBB scene continues for another year as Blacklist International and ECHO battle to become the third Filipino team to claim the world title in consecutive years.

MOONTON has not yet confirmed the venue for the M5 World Championship.

The first-ever MLBB world championship tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia back in 2019. The inaugural title was claimed by Indonesian team EVOS Legends.

The next two events, M2 and M3, were held in Singapore before the tournament was moved to Jakarta, Indonesia for M4.
