Sofía Vergara is set to star in the new crime drama Griselda from Netflix – inspired by a true story – and we now have a release window.
The streamer has confirmed it will arrive in January 2024.
At the same time, Netflix also shared what it described as an "extended first look", with brand new stills of Vergara (who is also a co-creator and executive producer of the limited series, alongside Narcos' Eric Newman and director Andrés Baiz) in the lead role.
Eric Newman said: "As a Colombian immigrant and single mother who came to America and built an empire, Sofía shares that personal aspect of this character and her passion for telling her story was undeniably the driving force behind this project.
"What will really surprise viewers is how she encompasses this complete darkness in her performance — a far cry from the beloved comedic star she's known as. Finding her way to that place was her great challenge on this show, and seeing the successful transformation was a privilege."
This news comes after the official Netflix Twitter account shared Vergara's transformation into Griselda Blanco – "a woman who rose from obscurity to become 'the Godmother' of the underworld".

Vergara, who is best known for appearing in ABC's long-running sitcom Modern Family as the eccentric Gloria Pritchard, will portray Blanco as a "woman with substance", as per the poster.
She will showcase Blanco's "lethal blend of charm and ruthlessness" in the series.
Occasionally known as 'The Black Widow' or the 'Cocaine Godmother', Blanco oversaw drug operations everywhere from Colombia to Miami, New York and California. She is widely credited with the exacerbation of the high crime epidemic of Miami in the 1980s, and her distribution network reportedly earned $80 million per month.
Blanco was arrested in 1985 and released in 2004. She was shot by a drive-by assassin on September 3, 2012, aged 69.
Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Alberto Ammann, Snowfall's Christian Tappán, Diego Trujillo, Paulina Dávila, Power's Gabriel Sloyer, José Zúñiga, Juliana Aidén Martinez and Martín Rodriguez make up the supporting cast.
Ingrid Escajeda and Narcos co-creator Doug Miro are also on board the creative team as co-showrunners.
Griselda will arrive on Netflix in January 2024.
