'Modern Warfare 3' still top in the USA

Nine months of downloadable content help keep MW3 bouyant

Three months on from its 2011 release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the United States' best-selling video game in February, while new releases UFC Undisputed 3, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Twisted Metal 2012 also made it into the top ten, according to market research firm NPD's monthly sales report.

January release Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Soul Calibur V extended their run of good form into February, with Final Fantasy XIII-2 doing particularly well in second place.

UFC Undisputed 3 represented the series' comeback after a two-year hiatus, with specialist studio Yuke's ensuring it was as good as, if not even better than, its predecessors.

Kingdoms of Amalur leapfrogged genre contender Skyrim, providing a taste of the potential Amalur online adventure that's yet to come, while perilously niche car combat title Twisted Metal 2012 at least managed a top ten placing.

March's leaderboard will provide a sterner test for the Modern Warfare 3 juggernaut, as Electronic Arts backs Mass Effect 3 with a comprehensive marketing campaign and the prospect of defeating a galactic apocalypse.
