Love it or hate it, Call of Duty is a massively lucrative franchise, and Modern Warfare III is the latest in a long line of entries. However, the new installment in Activision‘s series is not going down too well with PC gamers at the moment.

Some scathing reviews from players

It doesn’t take long to see that Modern Warfare III is being received less-than-positively, especially on Steam. The current review score shows it as “mostly negative,” with a slew of comments and feedback from users not exactly being kind to the new COD game.

Some of the reviews go so far as to be almost comical, with one person saying they would “rather buy WinRar,” while another literally begs people not to buy MWIII.

A quick look on SteamDB shows that the game currently has a score of 30.16%, with more than twice as many negative reviews as positive ones. A report from PCGamesN compares it to Colonial Marines, saying that Modern Warfare III has a “lower Steam rating” than the universally panned 2013 Alien title.

At the time of writing, Metacritic has it down as being “mixed or average,” with a score of 50, but that still places it at no. 436 on the site’s list of the best games of 2023. Additionally, the user meta score seems to match what’s being said on Steam, with players giving it an average of 1.4.

Much of this negativity seems to stem from the fact that Modern Warfare III feels more like DLC than a game worth full price. Maybe developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision will be able to pull things back from this current wave of woeful reviews.
