A mother and her adult son were found dead in a Minnesota apartment in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Officers came upon the bodies — both with gunshot wounds — while conducting a welfare check at the 30-year-old son’s northeast Rochester apartment on Thursday, June 27, according to a statement from the Rochester Police Department.

Neither the son nor his 54-year-old mother have been publicly identified by authorities, who said in a press release Friday that they were still in the process of notifying family members.

When officers found the mother and son, their “bodies had been there for some time,” say police.
