Is money really no enough? Well, that depends on what you’re looking at.

For local actress Patricia Mok, she confessed that she recently went through a period where money was really tight for her. She didn’t have enough cash to buy her HDB flat and had to borrow from two friends.

During an interview with local media for the film Money No Enough 3, the 52-year-old said, “When I was young, I didn’t save money when I was earning money. I bought branded bags, branded clothes, and went drinking.

“So when I needed to buy my house, I didn’t have enough cash. I have two very good friends who helped me with the cash. And it’s not just $4,000, $5,000 that kind; it’s five figures.”

This was only two years ago, she clarified. Mok added that now she tells the young folk to save money.

“I know, when you’re young, you need to buy the branded goods, you need to enjoy life, yes, but must keep [money]. Last time nobody teach me, now I want to educate the young.”

Fortunately, Mok has already cleared one of her loans, but admitted that the “post-Covid recovery is still not as good” and she is hoping for more jobs.

In Money No Enough 3, veteran comedians Jack Neo, Mark Lee, and Henry Thia reunite to play three long-time friends whose relationship is threatened when Lee’s character, Ah Hua, becomes blinded by money.

The film also stars Xiang Yun, Tang Miaoling, Regina Lim, Ivan Lo, Braven Yeo, Denise Fong, and Kelly Wong.

Mark Lee used to spend $5,000 in a month on 4D gambling

Like Ah Hua, Lee once had a problem with gambling. The 55-year-old revealed that he was “gambling too seriously” in 1992, just after he joined the iconic show Comedy Nite.

“One month, I 4D can buy about $5,000,” he recalled, as everyone was in disbelief.

Lee added, “Crazy, right? It’s not that I earned a lot of money, but I won a lot of money. Because when you win lottery, you’ll buy even more, right? You won’t keep the money when you win. Like, okay, these 4 numbers, I use $10 to buy. I strike all ready, I still use $10 to buy, but you’ll use $50 to buy another number.

“So you’ll increase the bet. That’s the worst thing I tell you.”

However, Mok chimed in to explain that Lee wasn’t the type of gambler who would owe people money.

Lee said, “That time was really tough. After that lesson, we know how money is important, firstly, but how you get money is also important.

“It’s not by the shortcut way. I mean, you have to work. You have to use the correct way to get the money.”

Money No Enough 3 will be out in cinemas on Thursday (1 Feb).
