More than 50 take part in charity sleep out
More than 50 people camped out overnight to raise vital funds for a homeless charity.
In aid of ARC, the Somerset charity who offer supported accommodation for the homeless, about 55 people took part in Taunton's Big Sleep Out in a car park behind The Crescent on Saturday.
The event was open to all ages and included live music, yoga and talks from previous ARC service users.
Event organiser, Samantha Parr said the event was "massively important" when it comes to fundraising, especially as charities continue to struggle.
Ms Parr said despite seeing a large increase in the demand for their services, the charity, who house 170 people locally, have "seen a drop in donations."
Participants of the event are provided with cardboard and spend one night sleeping outside.
Ms Parr said the event wasn't only about fundraising, but also raising awareness of homelessness and the issues those living on the streets face.
"The whole event replicates the harsh reality for somebody living on the street," she said.
"We can't thank everyone enough. Everyone who gave up their beds. Everyone who donated their time or services, like performances or food, to the event."
"It's quite challenging so it's a big thing for people to do and I think it just helps and gives the homeless people locally a bit of hope."
