More ‘White Lotus’ Seasons Could Be Coming—as Long as Mike White’s Onboard: HBO Execs

With HBO readying for the release of The White Lotus season three next year, it’s no surprise that viewers are already wondering whether the award-winning anthology will return in the future.

In a sit down with Variety ahead of the House of the Dragon premiere in Paris, HBO executive Casey Bloys and Warner Bros. Discovery’s JB Perrette gave a promising update on the beloved Mike White series including potential plans for a fourth installment and if the show could end anytime soon.

“I know Mike has a lot of ideas for where it could go,” Bloys told Variety. “We’re lucky to be in business with him. And we have actors who now really, really want to be on the show because it’s a great opportunity and it’s great writing. So I think as long as he wants to do it, we’ll go along for the ride. He’s really built a very interesting model to go from different parts of the world and have a rotating cast.”

The series, which is currently in production in Thailand, won over millions of viewers when it aired in 2021 and earned a whopping 23 nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. The show focuses on a new location and theme each season with a different group of guests checking into a luxe fictional resort. The upcoming installment will bring back Natasha Rothwell from season one while season two featured Jennifer Coolidge, who reprised her role as Tanya McQuoid.

HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys recently addressed the possibility of future seasons of The White Lotus.

During the interview, Bloys and Perrette opened up about a few other projects in the HBO pipeline including a Crazy Rich Asians TV show that’s being developed and a Dune prequel series. Bloys also addressed the chances of a potential Succession spinoff.

“Just like I was saying with Mike White, if he wants to do it, I would take [creator] Jesse [Armstrong’s] lead on that,” Bloys explained. “If for some reason Jesse called and said, ‘I’ve been thinking about it and I really want to do a spinoff,’ I would say, ‘Great.’ But first and foremost, it would be up to Jesse…”

“I think he’s taking some time now to figure out what he wants to do, but we’ll see what he wants to do next,” Bloys continued. “He needs a little time to decompress after the show and think about what he wants to do.”

One thing is for sure, the fans will be waiting.
