The Best Netflix Original Movies of 2024 (So Far)
I spend most of my time on Netflix turning off my brain and watching reality television. Shows such as Love Is Blind, Selling Sunset, and The Circle are the perfect way to wind down after work. But real-life competition and cheesy drama aren’t all that Netflix offers, of course. The streaming giant puts out a ton of movies as well, including some that have really impressed us this year. Recently, we saw Glen Powell display his leading-man chops in Hit Man. Audiences also got a fantastic “We Are the World” documentary in The Greatest Night in Pop, as well as a comedy about the creation of Pop-Tarts directed by Jerry Seinfeld. (Yes, you read that correctly: a Jerry Seinfeld Pop-Tarts movie.)
There’s also a documentary about WNBA legend Sue Bird, a psychological drama that sends Adam Sandler (!) to space, and multiple Zack Snyder sci-fi/fantasy epics. But I won’t hold you any longer. As we wait for another round of Cobra Kai, check out the best Netflix original movies of 2024 so far.—Josh Rosenberg
Hit Man
Glen Powell leads this delightful romantic comedy alongside Andor’s Adria Arjona, adapting the true story of an undercover hit man in Houston. Director Richard Linklater (Boyhood) adds a Hollywood twist when our hit man falls in love with a woman who wants him to kill her husband. Plus, his coworker Jasper (Austin Amelio) is hot on his heels. If you’re looking for some classic summer blockbuster fun, here’s your Hit Man.—J.R.

The Greatest Night in Pop
These days, it's damn near impossible to get the biggest pop stars to collaborate, but in 1985 they made it look easy. The Greatest Night in Pop tracks the creation of “We Are the World,” a charity song featuring Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and so many more. The documentary takes you behind the scenes of their recording session to showcase the night 46 artists made history.—B.N.

Spaceman
In Spaceman, Adam Sandler stars as a lonely astronaut named Jakub. Six months into his solo mission, he finds himself with, well, way too much time on his hands. Jakub’s isolation forces him to consider problems in his life back home—namely, his marriage, which is on the brink of collapse, and his career, which brought him to space in the first place. Just as Jakub starts to unravel, he meets an alien-like creature. Is his new friend real, or has Jakub truly lost his mind?—B.N.

Unfrosted
Unfrosted? That’s a monstrous way to eat a Pop-Tart. It’s almost as bad as thinking that Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon is the best Pop-Tart flavor. (We all know it’s Frosted Strawberry.) But Jerry Seinfeld, who helms this Social Network-but-for-Pop-Tarts comedy—alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Peter Dinklage, and many, many more—told CBS
he favors Brown Sugar Cinnamon. Now, that’s comedy.—J.R.
