Mother and Daughter to Be Laid to Rest Together After Dying in 'Devastating' Road Collision in Ireland

A mother and daughter from Ireland are being laid to rest after dying in a car crash together earlier this week.

On Tuesday, July 2, at approximately 5:45 p.m. local time, Aisling Moore, 46, and her 8-year-old daughter Abbigael Moore-Tournié died in a road traffic collision with a lorry on the N26 in Lismoran, Foxford, County Mayo, the press office of the Garda, Ireland's National Police and Security Service, confirmed in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. Authorities are continuing to investigate the collision and have requested for witnesses to come forward, the statement also said.

Per the Irish obituary website RIP.ie, funeral details for the late mother-daughter duo, from Cois Coille, Swinford, Co. Mayo, have now been released.

"Reposing in Swinford Cultural Centre, Swinford on Friday, 5th of July, from 5 o’clock to 8 o’clock. Funeral Mass this Saturday, 6th of July, at 12 o’clock in Our Lady Help of Christians Church prior to burial in Swinford Cemetery," the post read.

Foxford Parish Priest Fr Padraig Costello said, per Irish news outlet, Raidió Teilifís Eireann (RTE), that "it was a devastating scene" when he attended the scene of the crash shortly after it happened.

"All I could think of was the family because they would be getting the news later on... it was just so, so sad," he said, per the outlet. According to RTE, the driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital, though his injuries were understood to not be life-threatening.

The Parents Association of St Aidan's National School in Kiltimagh, where Abbigael was a pupil, was among those paying tribute on Facebook.

"It is with very heavy hearts and great sadness that we hear about the tragic deaths of 2nd class pupil Abbigael Moore and her loving mother Aisling," the message read.

"Abbigael was a beautiful child. So full of life. Always smiling. It is heartbreaking to think she has been taken so suddenly in such a tragic way. She was a much-valued pupil and friend of 2nd class. All her friends adored her as she was always so much fun to be around."

"Aisling was so well known and liked among all the parents within our school community. She always had a kind word for everyone," the message included. "She was a beautiful soul. Her gentle presence always brought a sense of calm. She was so devoted and proud of Abbigael. You would never see one without the other."

"Aisling and Abbigael you will be forever apart of our school community and we will always remember the joy and love you brought to it," the tribute read.

Per the RTE.ie death notice, "Aisling and Abbigael will be sadly missed by Abbigael’s father Arnaud, her half-sister Aleksia, her French grandparents Jean Yves and Michéle Tournié."

"They will also be missed by Aisling's parents Eamon and Noreen, brothers Eddie, Stephen and sister Anita, sisters in law Louise and Charline and brother in law Declan, nieces, nephews and all their extended and much-loved family, neighbors and friends," the post added.
