The faculty strike at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax has ended.

In a news release on Tuesday night, the faculty association said it met with MSVU's board of governors and reached a tentative agreement shortly before 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

"This means that the strike is over," Isabelle Nault, vice-president of MSVU administration, said in a post on the university's Facebook page on Tuesday night.

Members of the faculty association — which includes full-time faculty, librarians and lab instructors — will return to work on Wednesday and classes are expected to resume on Thursday, the university and faculty association both confirmed.

"The agreement followed long hours at the bargaining table that extended from Saturday morning late into Monday night," the faculty association said in its news release.

The strike began Feb. 12. The faculty association said ratification marks the end of the second strike in its 35-year history.
