Smart Omega Esports Philippines (OMG) soundly swept TNC Pro Team 3-0 in the lower bracket finals of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 9 Playoffs on Sunday (1 May) to secure the final spot in the grand finals, where they will challenge RSG Philippines for the championship.

Not many expected OMG to be one of this season's finalists, as they barely made the playoffs as the sixth seed with a 6-8 record.

Despite the odds, OMG started the playoffs strong by sweeping third seed ECHO Esports and advancing to the upper bracket semifinals.

In their first meeting with TNC in the playoffs, OMG were routed 3-1 and got knocked down to the lower bracket.

OMG quickly bounced back by sweeping ONIC Philippines to advance to the lower bracket finals for a rematch with TNC, who were swept by RSG Philippines in the upper bracket finals.

While the match ended up being a sweep, OMG had to fight tooth and nail for each win.

In a marathon game one, OMG edged out TNC in kills, 16-11, to take the opening win in just under 26 minutes.

The action didn't let up in a 20-minute game two, with OMG prevailing over a staunch TNC defense and finishing with a 17-10 kill lead to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.

A closely-contested game three could have gone either way, but OMG outlasted TNC in a 21-16 slugfest to secure the series sweep after 19 minutes of action.

With their victory, OMG have secured at least a Top 2 finish and US$20,000 in winnings. They will challenge RSG Philippines in the best-of-seven grand finals for the Season 9 championship and the grand prize of US$35,000.

More importantly, OMG have qualified for the 2022 Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC), where they will face 10 other top teams from all across Southeast Asia for a cut of a US$300,000 prize pool in mid-June.

The roster of OMG will notably enter the 2022 MSC as defending champions after they won the 2021 MSC under the banner of Execration.

Meanwhile, TNC bow out of MPL PH Season 9 with a commendable third place finish and with US$10,000 in consolation.
