Larger-than-usual commuter crowds at some MRT stations were expected on Tuesday morning (25 July) as a power fault was reported on the MRT North South East West Line (NSEWL).

SMRT tweeted at around 7.30am that trains were running at longer intervals due to an intermittent power fault, and that crowds at stations were expected. Twitter users responded, with some saying that they had been experiencing delays from as early as 6.15am.

SMRT subsequently tweeted that its engineers were carrying out checks.

Update 25 Jul 11.20am:

SMRT says train services between Queenstown and Bugis in both directions are suspended for up to 30 minutes, for urgent repairs. Free regular bus services are available between Queenstown and Bugis in both directions.

SMRT added on Facebook that engineers traced the fault to a loose panel next to the tracks in the tunnel near Tiong Bahru MRT Station. As a result, traction power needed to be “turned off for safety”, resulting in the stoppage of service between Queenstown and Bugis in both directions from 11.30am, “for up to half an hour”.
