MTV's “The Challenge 40” Is Here! Johnny Bananas, CT Tamburello and More Vets Return for “Battle of the Eras”

MTV announced that the 40th season of the iconic competition series will premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 14

The highly anticipated 40th season of The Challenge has a release date and an official list of competitors.

MTV announced on Monday, June 24, that The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras will premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with a group of 40 competitors from across the show’s past 39 seasons divided into four different eras. The contestants — who include Challenge legends Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio, Leroy Garrett, Cara Maria Sorbello, Chris “CT” Tamburello, Darrell Taylor and Jordan Wiseley — will battle it out for their share of a $1 million prize. Participants will have to compete at the Era Invitational and eliminate the other contestants within their own Challenge Era to earn a spot on their team.

TJ Lavin will return as host and fans can get a sneak peek of the upcoming season when The Challenge 40: Battle for of the Eras: Countdown Begins special airs on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Tamburello’s return to The Challenge comes on the heels of the 43-year-old’s victory on The Traitors season 2 alongside fellow Challenger Trishelle Cannatella. Devenanzio, 42, also competed on Traitors, but was eliminated first.

Veteran Mark Long comes back to the flagship series after launching The Challenge: All Stars on Paramount+. Laurel Stucky won the fourth and most recent season of All Stars and will compete on Battle of the Eras.

The Challenge 40 will also see fan favorites Garrett, 39, Aneesa Ferreira and Cory Wharton seek their first Challenge wins.

Regardless of who wins, season 40 contestants Michele Fitzgerald and Devin Walker found love on the show. The reality stars confirmed earlier this month that they are dating. “That’s my boyfriend,” the Survivor winner, 34, wrote on her Instagram Stories over a photo with the Are You the One? alum, 35.

Another season 40 romance has emerged on social media in recent weeks: Olivia Kaiser, 31, and Theo Campbell, 32. The Love Island USA alum has even revealed a "THEO" tattoo placed behind her ear.
