Naomi Campbell Re-Wore a Chanel Dress She Modeled Almost 30 Years Ago
Yes, she Cannes.

Naomi Campbell may be most famous for having the opportunity to wear the latest and greatest from just about any brand she wants, but her latest outing proves that she's got the chops to bring back the classics, too. During the red carpet premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival, the supermodel re-wore a look from Chanel's Spring-Summer 1997 couture collection—a gown that she wore on the runway nearly 30 years ago.
The sequined gown got a 2024 update, however. In its debut, the shimmering black dress included a long, silky slip underneath to add a layer of modesty. However, when Campbell wore the dress today, the slip was gone, revealing her legs underneath the skirt, which had bands of sheer panels peeking out from between the sequins. The rest of the dress remained the same, including the delicate pearl straps, plunging sides, and straight-across neckline. She finished the look with sleek black pumps and wore her hair in huge curls.

When the creation walked the 1997 runway, it was styled with similar black shoes, though Campbell wore the Karl Lagerfeld-designed dress with an updo and a sparkling barrette. He called the collection "hysterical Chanel" at the time.

Campbell may be in Cannes for the movies and the glam, but she has other reasons to celebrate. BMW announced that its new model, the XM Mystique Allure, was inspired by Campbell. According to WWD, "The new car is in the model’s favorite color, ultramarine, a deep blue that can almost pass for purple and is finished in matte. The interiors feature rich velvet fabrications and shimmering, metallic sequins." The car is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
“Witnessing BMW’s vision for the BMW XM Mystique Allure come to life has been truly incredible. I feel deeply honored to have sparked the inspiration for their first high-fashion show car, which stands as a unique masterpiece in every aspect,” Campbell said.
