Neighbours cast reunite at London event ahead of soap's return

The cast of Neighbours reunited at an event in London ahead of the soap’s return next week.

The reboot of the Australian soap will premiere on Amazon Freevee on Monday September 18, with The Neighbours Experience being unveiled to celebrate the occasion.

The immersive experience sees many famous places on Ramsay Street brought to life, and members of the cast attended for the grand opening of the event.

Alan Fletcher, Mischa Barton, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Georgie Stone, Tim Kano and Stefan Dennis were all given a tour of the set, with the group later taking part in a Q+A before the grand opening tomorrow (September 15).

The event was also attended by some celebrity guests, with Rylan Clark, Gemma Collins and Dianne Buswell competing in a Neighbours-themed pub quiz with superfans of the show.

Fletcher, who has played Karl Kennedy since 1994, also previewed the upcoming episodes, saying: “Neighbours isn’t just a TV show, it’s a part of people’s lives.

“If you turn on the new Neighbours next Monday, having never watched an episode in your life, you will have no problem falling in love with the show. We have a mix of favourites and fabulous new people in the cast…it’s back and better than ever,” he added.

Dennis, who debuted as Paul Robinson in 1985, recently revealed that the reboot will retain the core style of the soap, stating that the increasing globalisation of the soap wouldn’t affect the production.

“There isn't much of a change, which is really good – it's a really good sign for us. We did want to go back to the same thing,” he said. “It's exactly the same – we didn't want to see Neighbours go broke because of too much Americanisation or changes full stop.

“They [the producers] vowed to keep it the old way. We're an Australian show. The reason we're iconic and the reason we're unique to the rest of the world is because we are the quirky Australian show, so don't change it,” he added.

Neighbours returns on September 18, with new episodes streaming on Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
