Netflix confirms future of The Diplomat with season 2 announcement
Netflix is extending the stay of The Diplomat.
The streamer confirmed on Monday (May 1) that it was officially renewing Homeland producer Debora Cahn's latest political thriller for a second season, meaning Cocaine Bear star Keri Russell will maintain her post as the fictional US ambassador to the UK.
Netflix's vice president of drama series, Jinny Howe, said in a statement: "Fans around the world are loving every minute of The Diplomat's gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri Russell's powerful performance as Kate Wyler.

"After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we can't wait for them to see what the amazing visionary team of Debora Cahn, Janice Williams and Keri Russell have in store for Season 2."
The eight-part drama series put Kate Wyler, the US ambassador to the UK, squarely in the middle of an international incident while maintaining her strained marriage to diplomat Hal (Kaleidoscope's Rufus Sewell).
Netflix has reported that The Diplomat was viewed for more than 57.48 million hours during its first weekend of release last month.
Those impressive viewing stats meant the political thriller was ranked No.1 among Netflix's English-language series in the US, and ranked in the top ten in 86 other countries where Netflix has streaming access.
"We had such a great time making The Diplomat. And it's a thrill to see how much people are enjoying it," showrunner Debora Cahn said of the renewal.
The ensemble cast joining Russell and Sewell includes Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again's Celia Imrie, Carnival Row's David Gyasi, Bond star Rory Kinnear, Chicago Med's Ato Essandoh and Doctor Who's Pearl Mackie.
The series was Russell's first political thriller for TV since she wrapped the Cold War-era series The Americans back in 2018.
The Diplomat is streaming now worldwide on Netflix.
