Netflix drops highly anticipated live-action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' trailer

Netflix has released the first full official trailer for its live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

What it shows: The new trailer teems with Fire Nation warfare and teases additional characters such as King Bumi (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Jet (Sebastian Amoruso), June (Arden Cho) and her mount Nyla, a creature known as a shirshu. Forest spirit Hei Bai also appears in its non-panda form, while Aang (Gordon Cormier) enters the powerful Avatar State.

About the series: Created by Albert Kim, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” adapts the animated Nickelodeon series of the same title, which debuted in 2005 and ran for three seasons. Aside from Cormier, the new Netflix fantasy adventure stars Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

What fans are saying: The trailer has amassed 1.1 million views less than six hours after its release. Fans are ecstatic and hopeful for the new series.

“This looks awesome,” one wrote. “I felt GOOSEBUMPS when the Avatar background music kicked in at the end. I hope that the show lives up to the trailer and does its fans justice.”

“Dude even the actors’ voices sound similar to the cartoon, this is crazy. And the costumes all look identical to their cartoon counterparts as well,” another pointed out.

“THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR,” another declared.

Release date: “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will start streaming on Feb. 22. Other cast members include Tamlyn Tomita, Daniel Dae Kim, Elizabeth Yu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, Yvonne Chapman, Maria Zhang, James Sie, Casey Camp Horinek, Ruy Iskandar and Lim Kay Siu.
