Netflix's DC series Dead Boy Detectives from The Sandman universe gets first-look teaser
Netflix has released the first-look teaser for Dead Boy Detectives, a new show set in the same universe as The Sandman.
The latest Neil Gaiman adaptation follows a pair of detectives named Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) and Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) who decide that they don't want to go to the afterlife and instead spend their time solving all sorts of supernatural crimes back on Earth.
The teaser introduces us to the pair as they declare: "We're ghosts, and we solve mysteries," while also teasing many of the hijinks they get involved in.

The cast includes Hollyoaks' Kassius Nelson, The White Lotus' Lukas Gage, Saw X's Michael Beach, Dead to Me's Max Jenkins, The Carrie Diaries' Lindsey Gort, The Summer I Turned Pretty's David Iacono, and Briana Cuoco, who is indeed the sister of The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco.
The series was originally announced as a pilot for HBO Max way back in 2021, with a slightly different cast, but now it's ended up as a full, eight-episode season on Netflix. As mentioned above, it will share a universe with Netflix's The Sandman.
Should we expect cameos and crossovers? Is the streamer planning to make a big old shared Gaimanverse? Time will tell.

Interestingly, the setup for Dead Boy Detectives sounds similar to the classic manga and anime Yu Yu Hakusho, which is about a teenager who is killed and given the chance to become a 'Spirit Detective' and investigate various ghostly cases (that usually involve very long tournament arcs).
What makes that so interesting is that Netflix has also released a teaser for its adaptation of YYH just this week.
Dead Boy Detectives will stream on Netflix.
