Netflix's first look at You season 5 as filming begins

Netflix has unveiled a first look at the fifth season of You after it was announced that production was underway.

The psychological-thriller series is due to return later this year with its final season, and Netflix has announced that filming had begun, with the streaming service sharing a post to celebrate the occasion.

“Spotted: Joe Goldberg in New York City. The 5th and final season of YOU is now in production,” Netflix confirmed on X/Twitter, accompanied by a photo of the central character (Penn Badgley) crossing the street in the Big Apple.

The fourth season ended with Joe and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) living in harmony after she embraced his darker side, so it remains to be seen what the pair will get up to for the final instalment.

Whilst plot details for the fifth season have remained under wraps, a casting announcement was made as Madeleine Brewer joined the show as Bronte, a “free-spirited and enigmatic” playwright who crosses paths with Joe.

The pair meet as she accepts a role at Joe’s bookstore, with the duo bonding over literature and loss as she “awakens a nostalgia for his former self and makes him question his life” – sounds like she will have quite the impact!

Whilst the series will largely contain many of the elements that has made it so popular, there is a change behind-the-scenes, with Michael Foley and Justin W Lo replacing creator Sera Gamble as showrunners.

“Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honour and ridiculously fun,” said Gamble in a statement. “I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn.

“I'm proud of what we've all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I'm excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg's journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”
