Squid Game: The Challenge has debuted a first trailer ahead of the spin-off's unveiling this autumn.

Set to premiere on November 22, the Netflix reality show dangles a $4.56 million carrot in front of 456 contestants, who in the footage are both wowed and terrified by the tasks that await them.

"Attention players. You will now compete for our biggest cash prize in reality show history," shares an announcer, as lights across the enormous and colourful toy-like sets are switched on.

The Challenge will arrive after it was reported earlier this year that filming conditions were challenging. A segment known as 'Red Light, Green Light' was allegedly particularly problematic, with claims of freezing temperatures and stretchered-off participants.

"Netflix, Studio Lambert and The Garden takes contributor care as one of its highest priorities and regular toilet breaks, water and food are categorically standard practice on production," read the streamer's response.

"All contestants were prepared by production several weeks ago that they would be playing a game in cold conditions and participated knowing this. All precautions were taken to ensure the game was played safely."

Soon after, one anonymous member of the cast told Variety: "This is not a Bear Grylls survival show. It's not like we signed up for Survivor or Naked and Afraid. The conditions were absolutely inhumane and had nothing to do with the game."

Once again, Netflix (along with Studio Lambert and The Garden) was forced to defend itself, telling Digital Spy: "We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue."

Squid Game: The Challenge hits Netflix on November 22. Squid Game season 1 is streaming now, while season 2 is also on its way.
