Netflix's Squid Game reality show lands release window
Netflix has confirmed when its Squid Game: The Challenge series will be released.
The reality spin-off of the hit South Korean drama show will see 456 players compete in games inspired by the original series for a $4.56 million prize.
The streamer has now revealed at its Upfronts event that Squid Game: The Challenge will hit the platform in November, with a specific release date to be revealed at a later time.

The show has seen some controversy, especially after a report emerged alleging that participants have been subjected to extreme conditions during filming.
In response to the claims, Studio Lambert, The Garden and Netflix said in a joint statement: "We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue."
Meanwhile, last year Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk addressed concerns around the spin-off and whether it was appropriate to recreate a dark and dystopian concept in a non-fiction environment.

"I think that even though our show does carry quite a heavy message – and I know that there are some concerns on taking that message and creating it into a reality show with a cash prize – I feel like when you take things too seriously, that's really not the best way to go for the entertainment industry. It doesn't really set a great precedent," he said.
"So, I would say that reproductions of such efforts are going to bring new meaning to the industry, and I hope that this is going to be a great new direction for the industry overall."
Squid Game: The Challenge will premiere in November on Netflix. Squid Game season 1 is streaming now. Season 2 has been confirmed.
