What is the ‘I never meant to break your heart’ TikTok trend?

The “I never meant to break your heart” TikTok trend has people living out their rom-com fantasies.

A snippet from the song “Up” by Olly Murs and Demi Lovato is inspiring thirst traps. Over 219,000 videos are currently associated with the TikTok sound. While some videos are more comedic, they all have one thing in common: intense eye contact. But TikTokers are not locking eyes with their loves so much as they are the camera.

Watch this Brooklyn bedroom go from drab to fabulous in one day:

“POV: We enter the elevator,” @jacob_rtt wrote in video text.

He slid his arm through the elevator doors before they almost closed. As Murs sang, “I never meant to break your heart,” the influencer made flirtatious eye contact with the camera like it was a love interest.

TikToker Mark Lucas hopped on the trend but opted for an escalator instead of an elevator.

Others like @luisortner_ had more dramatic storylines. His POV was that he was on a secret mission. As he body-surfed up an escalator, he broke the fourth wall and smirked at the camera.

“POV: we get assigned to the same scalp (as lice) & make eye contact,” @mitsy270 wrote on one video.

She dressed up as a louse, crawled around the floor and then it was love at first sight.

“POV: we’re snakes slithering through the tundra and I catch ur eye,” @iamvictorias_secret said, writhing on the floor.
