Newcastle XI vs Nottingham Forest: Anthony Gordon injury latest, confirmed team news, predicted lineup today

Newcastle are set to be without Anthony Gordon for tonight’s trip to Nottingham Forest as injuries once again strike Eddie Howe’s side.

The winger, 22, was taken off at half-time of the 4-4 draw with Luton and has been unable to train since.

“He hasn’t trained this week,” said the Newcastle boss. “But we don’t think the injury is serious. We’re very hopeful he can be back sooner rather than later.”

Howe added that it is “slightly unclear” when Gordon will return to training, appearing to rule him out of today’s game.

Alexander Isak has been confirmed as another absentee for Newcastle, who are also without potential attacking options Joelinton and Elliot Anderson.

“Alex won’t make this game,” Howe admitted. “We hope he won’t be too far away for the following games but he doesn’t have a fixed return date yet. He is making progress and the injury isn’t as serious as first feared.”

However, the Magpies should have Callum Wilson available to start up front after he was, as Howe described, “thrust back in” off the bench against Luton despite having not trained before last weekend’s match.

The striker has been available for training leading up to the Forest game and may be flanked by Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, unless Harvey Barnes has proved his readiness to play 90 minutes having also featured as a substitute on his recent return from injury.

If fit, Jamaal Lascelles is expected to be on the bench while Tino Livramento is another option to freshen up a defence that conceded four goals last time out.
