Woman finds cockroach in Mr Bean soy milk drink after sucking up 'something that is not a pearl', SFA says it is looking into the matter

According to her, the drink was ordered in by a colleague from Queenstown MRT branch, store to also conduct full check of premises.

SINGAPORE — A woman who had been drinking her soy milk from Mr Bean and found a cockroach in it took to Facebook to share about the incident on Monday (18 March). In her post on Complaint Singapore, Facebook user Pamster Tan wrote that the drink had been purchased from the Mr Bean outlet at Queenstown MRT by her colleague.

She had started sipping the drink from 12pm, and later sucked up "something that is not a pearl and with a crunch". She discovered it was a cockroach after spitting it out.

"Now I am feeling sick of the thought (of) what bacteria I have been intaking since 12pm!!!" she wrote in her post..

Investigations underway, full check on store

In response to queries from Yahoo Southeast Asia, a spokesperson from Mr Bean Singapore said that it is aware of the matter, and has reached out to the Facebook user for more information to carry out a thorough investigation.

As a precautionary measure, the store will conduct a full check of its premises, and keep her updated, the spokesperson said.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) also told Yahoo it is looking into the matter. The agency said it takes a "serious view" towards food safety, and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices.

"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."

Public apology from Mr Bean Singapore on Facebook

The social account for Mr Bean Singapore left a comment on the Facebook user's post at around 6.58pm on Monday evening to apologise for the incident.

"Dear Pamster, we apologise for the unhappy incident at our Queenstown MRT store during your recent visit. Your feedback will allow us to conduct our internal investigations."

The company added that it hopes the user can assist in the matter by sending over her contact details via private message.

"We will proceed with investigations now and hope to be able to speak to you regarding this incident. Once again, we are sorry for this unhappy experience, and we look forward to your reply. Thank you."

Netizens have also left many comments on the post. One advised her to see a doctor for a physical examination, and suggested her to keep a sample of the drink for submission as “evidence”.
