Log-in issues in Pokémon GO aren’t new and have been plaguing the game for years now, especially for players who access the game through Facebook.

And while developer Niantic has come up with fixes in the past, it seems that trainers that use Facebook to access the game continue to encounter problems.

This happened again on 24 March (Friday), as Niantic Support’s official Twitter account stated that the log-in issues had been resolved.

However, one Twitter user, @stayce_t, said that she couldn’t log in with Facebook once again.

Niantic Support responded to this in a way that raised many eyebrows, asking the user to “please remove/uninstall the Facebook app from your phone and try to log in manually”.

Players on the Pokémon GO subreddit /r/TheSilphRoad seemed baffled at the response, like user milotic03, who posted about it.

Other players chimed in, with some, like _Half_Empty, finding the response quite “hilarious” and others, like facedepastel, saying they’d “rather uninstall pogo [Pokémon GO] than any other app”.

Still others, like AtomicGhost02 and F3nRa3L, pointed out that other mobile games also have Facebook login issues, and this wasn’t isolated to Pokémon GO.

Meanwhile, other Reddit users like galeongirl and Kittykg were concerned that some phones have the Facebook app pre-installed, and uninstalling it would prove difficult, with Reddit user Grabaah pointing out that “rooting can help remove those preinstalled apps, but in turn, [you] are softbanned in-game”.

It seems that Redditor CorgiGal89 has a fix for the issue, but only for those with other alternative ways to log in. Players who have synced their Gmail addresses, Apple ID, or trainer club accounts have this option.

There hasn’t been any update on stayce_t’s end after Niantic Support’s response.

The Facebook log-in fiasco first began during the Pokémon GO Fest Seattle 2022, which took place in July last year.

During the event, the log-in complication kept people from fully taking part. However, despite multiple attempts by the Pokémon GO devs to solve the recurring issue, and continues to persist and bother trainers.

However, players who don’t use Facebook to log into the game rarely encounter issues.

Niantic has yet to provide further updates regarding the recurring problem.
