Nicholas Hoult addresses major The Menu mystery about Tyler

The Menu spoilers follow.

The Menu's Nicholas Hoult has addressed a major mystery about his character Tyler.

In the Mark Myloyd-directed film, Anya Taylor-Joy and Hoult star as a young couple named Margot and Tyler, who are invited to an exclusive restaurant on a remote island where Ralph Fiennes' Chef Slowik has some shocking surprises in store.

Towards the end of the movie, Slowik whispers something into Tyler's ear and utterly devastates the self-proclaimed foodie – but it's never revealed what he said.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Kimmel, Hoult was asked what Slowik could have possibly said to elicit such a reaction from Tyler.

However, the X-Men actor admitted that the line wasn't scripted, and he wasn't prepared to repeat what Fiennes had come up with.

"It wasn't scripted what he whispers in my ear," he said. "Ralph is fantastic... And he would deliver different things... different things in my ear... You don't want to know what he was saying."

The Menu has plenty of twists and turns throughout, so much so that even Hoult couldn't figure out how the movie would end when he began reading the script.

"I'm not smart enough to see at all where it was going, I was really enjoying the ride," he told Digital Spy. "I was like: 'What is this?' and then, that was really fun – getting to the end and I was like: 'Ah, I didn't see any of that, this all makes sense.'

"Going back and reading again, piecing together little tidbits of information in the moment, where [I was] like: 'Oh, that makes sense.'"

The Menu is available to watch on Disney+ in the UK and HBO Max in the US.
