Nicolas Cage’s son Weston Coppola Cage arrested on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon: LAPD

The actor and musician was released on a $150,000 bond the same day.

Weston Coppola Cage, the eldest son of Nicolas Cage, was arrested Wednesday on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

On July 10, Weston surrendered to the city's 77th division, an LAPD spokesperson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. This followed an April 28 incident LAPD responded to where Weston allegedly punched two victims multiple times, causing injury.

A report was completed at the time, which led to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon filed against Cage by the District Attorney, prompting a felony warrant.

Weston was booked at 7:57 a.m. local time and later released on $150,000 bond at 9:50 a.m., PEOPLE confirmed via police records.

The LAPD did not directly state whether the incident in question was Weston's April 28 altercation with his mother, Christina Fulton, at her Los Angeles home.

Representatives for Weston and Fulton did not immediately respond to EW's requests for comment.

In May, the LAPD confirmed to PEOPLE that "a battery report was taken" as a result of an alleged scuffle between the mother and son. In a statement to the outlet, Fulton disputed reports that she and Weston argued before the altercation, claiming that she was consoling her son during an emotional crisis.

"On Sunday, April 28th, I was reached out to by several of Weston’s best friends for assistance because they were experiencing Weston in a mental-health crisis,” Fulton said at the time. "I acted swiftly to ensure his safety. Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience.”

She added, “I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs."

Weston, who has been open about his struggles with substance abuse, was previously arrested for a DUI in 2017.
