Nicole Kidman is kissing and telling.

The A Family Affair actress spoke about onscreen chemistry in a roundtable interview for The Hollywood Reporter alongside fellow actresses Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Sofía Vergara, Brie Larson, Jodie Foster and Anna Sawai.

Kidman's response came after the interviewer asked the group if any of them could "relate" to Anne Hathaway's recent quotes about not being excited to kiss a number of men for a costar chemistry test, posing the question, "Who here can relate, and what were your versions of it?"

"To be excited to make out with someone? I think maybe secretly I’ve been excited," replied Kidman, 56, laughing.

Chimed in Kidman's close friend Watts, 55, of her own experience, "I was auditioning and I didn’t get the job, so clearly I did not do a good make-out. It was with a very well-known actor. It was mortifying because we didn’t hear a 'cut,' and it just kept going."

Kidman added that chemistry tests shouldn't be the be-all end-all for finding matches onscreen. "You can not have chemistry [in the audition], and onscreen, it’s made," she said. "...There’s a way you can shoot things. I think just relying on chemistry is lazy. There’s the writing. There’s the interaction. You can literally be directed through it."

Kidman did not specify whom she has been "secretly" excited about kissing during her decades-long career.

She next stars opposite Zac Efron in Netflix romantic comedy A Family Affair. The film costars Joey King as Zara, a young woman working as an assistant for movie-star Chris Cole (Efron, 36), who becomes romantically entangled with Zara’s mother (Kidman).

The project marks the second romantic affair between characters of Kidman and Efron, with their 2012 movie The Paperboy featuring the pair as lovers, as well.

Last month, Efron told PEOPLE he'd been nervous as an actor in his 20s first working with the Oscar winner, and experienced similar jitters on the set of A Family Affair.

"I was still a bit apprehensive, but reuniting with Nicole is always so great. And as talented as she as an actress, she is equally kind, caring and wonderful to spend time with," the Iron Claw actor said, promising that their characters' chemistry in the film is "seamless, natural and fun."
