Prepare the midnight margaritas and get ready to embrace your inner witchy woman. Practical Magic 2 is officially happening—and Nicole Kidman just dropped some seriously exciting hints about what we can expect. During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Kidman revealed that she and Sandra Bullock would be reprising their roles as the magical Owens sisters, Gillian and Sally.

"Sandy and I have been talking about it for a while now," she said. "Warner Bros. was just gonna put feelers out and [now it's happening]!"

Kidman went on to explain that the sequel would re-examine the original film's feminist themes within the framework of a modern perspective.

"It'll be interesting, because, when it was first released, the way in which it was so sort of outrageous and now [it's not]," she said. "There's a whole reason to do it. There is something nice about [having a reason to do it]."

She went on, "Ultimately, it is about sisters. I obviously have a sister and I'm raising sisters right now, so there's so much there anyway. [The question is] how does that translate into now?"

The long-awaited sequel to the cult classic 1998 film was announced earlier this week. The original Practical Magic, based on the novel by Alice Hoffman, followed the Owens sisters, two witch sisters, who, after accidentally killing Gillian's abusive boyfriend, bring him back as a zombie- using a forbidden spell. Meanwhile, Gillian deals with a family curse that causes the death of each of her lovers. Ultimately, the film is an ode to the complexity and beauty of sisterhood in all of its forms.

The plot of the sequel hasn't been revealed yet, but Hoffman has written a number of other books in the Practical Magic universe. The most recent, The Book of Magic: A Novel, was released in 2021. It has also yet to be announced whether or not Stockard Channing and Diane Wiest will reprise their roles as the sisters' aunts, or whether Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Atrip will return as Sally's daughters.
